ReTooled: Highlights from the Hechinger Collection • Jan 30 – May 1:ReTooled brings to life the unexpected subject of tools by profiling 28 visionary artists from the Hechinger Collection, featuring more than 40 imaginative paintings, sculptures, works on paper and photographs, the exhibition consists of four sections that dynamically frame the themes of this collection into accessible categories: Objects of Beauty; Material Illusions; Instruments of Satire; and Tools: An Extension of Self. 

ReTooled was organized by International Arts & Artists, Washington, DC, from Tools as Art: The Hechinger Collection, gift of John and June Hechinger.

 #WhoAreYouPeninsula  • Jan 30 – May: Led by CNU Professor, Dr. Johnny Finn, this photography exhibition explores community by fostering a discussion about identity – Who are you – in 6 words and a photo? 

Experiments/Machines: Photographs by Robert Sulkin • Jan 30 – April 3: Robert Sulkin revels in the wonder and genius associated with scientific discovery, envisioning himself as an inventor trying to create devices out of simple materials that would resolve the world’s largest problems.

Another Man’s Treasure: Assemblages by Sam Hundley  • Jan 30 – April 3: A long time illustrator and page designer for the Virginian-Pilot, Hundley began his career working with pastels then printmaking. In 2009, he began creating pieces using found or scrap objects making figures and scenes that cause people to grin and laugh.

Lovers of the spoken words are invited to share poems at this event, offered free on the second Thursday of every month.

Our current exhibition artist, Sam Hundley, reuses found objects to make animals or people. We will reuse plastic bottle to make adorable Penguin Sculptures!
